When Did Cloud Server Platforms First Become Popular?

The people who know that cloud computing is really an old idea that go way back to 1960s are very few. The initial consideration was by John McCarthy, who implied that there was a prospect of having computing given in the same way as other public functions. This idea was dismissed by a majority of people without a second thought, due to the application of computing at that time. After the first announcement his prediction at last became true though it took many years. Today however, we have seen this prediction come true with the increasing popularity of cloud computing.

Computing came across another key challenge, instantly after the Y2K crisis that proceeded in the year 2000. The great trust that people had on the internet was broken by this new challenge. The internet bubble had made companies overlook efficiencies in their functions as it happens with several other swiftly rising sectors. Capacity wastage went unnoticed and efficiency was not a priority. Following the rapture of the internet bubble, all this was realized as the great infrastructure capacities of majority of companies were left unutilized. Technology companies were from this point looking for ways to ensure efficiency and maximum use of resources. This is where cloud computing and cloud server technology got off to a proper start.

So much recognition for cloud server technology goes to Amazon who were the leaders in this area with the establishment of Amazon Web Services. The initial launch of 2002 was in line with what is currently known as private cloud servers as the aim was to deliver services and information to partners through the web service. The actual beginning of cloud server technology was in March 2006 when Amazon instigated S3 which also opened up pay per use structure. Companies like Google and IBM were into the cloud server and cloud computing business in 2008. This is the time around which cloud computing became a popular and viable model which had acceptance from both users and providers of computing.

Though it may seem that a lot of this development was taking place in the United States, Europe was not lagging behind. Cloud servers initiated in the US and in other parts of the world run hand in hand as those in the UK. By 2009, cloud computing was quickly gaining ground on other technologies and looked set to be the next big step for computers. In the same year cloud servers in UK were estimated to have tripled with many more preparing for launching. apparently, this confirmed that computing skills in Europe were at the same level with rest of the world. UK cloud servers continue to deliver world class services and applications to users around the globe. Cloud server technology goes on seeing more recognition and uptake everywhere in the world, though in 2008 and 2009 were the years that made the technology receive a lot of popularity. The major cause for this rise in popularity is the gain in effectiveness and abilities of cloud server technology.
