Cloud hosting basically means a website is connected to multiple servers rather than a single one such as those found in dedicated hosting services. Small or medium sized companies who do not have sufficient resources to host their own usually need to share the servers with other companies and organizations and so use cloud server hosting. With a cloud server host, a machine known as a cloud server is used to connect a number of shared servers and other resources especially hardware. The providers who give access to their clients own and maintain the internet are part of the cloud hosting. Cloud servers are therefore machines in a cloud infrastructure or virtual machines on to which cloud servers are deployed at once so as to share hardware and other resources. The website gains access to more than one server resulting in unlimited processing power in this type of hosting since you can easily scale up. The level of scalability is high since adding a machine to that which already exists is easily achieved. Apart from being scalable, cloud hosting is also efficient, reliable, highly available and cost effective. Cloud hosting services is more often used in business hosting. Business web hosting involves the use of the internet to run business. An expansion in the business environment has led to more companies doing business over the internet. Business web hosting is quite expensive and many companies find it hard to own servers. For this reason, companies that are likely to use cloud hosting for their businesses are small and middle scale companies. Cloud hosting enables the companies to share the available resources like hardware and software which makes it cheaper for organizations who want to do business over the internet or web. Organizations who want to share servers to minimize expenses may find it cheaper to use cloud hosting but this may be unsafe to business hosting. Users of any given business may not find it safe to have data on the same shared hardware from each other. Damage to any business could be possible as hardware is shared and competitors may be able to gain access to information from each other's website. Since access is available to every user on the same hardware, the possibility of data loss is very likely especially if there are businesses with unethical practices on the same. Loss of business information through stealing of business ideas and data may be deliberately caused by businesses and competitors on it. One company causing a halt to operations or crashing of operations of other companies on the same hardware through the release of its information is a possibility. This may also cause a security breach affecting all the other companies on the cloud because of certain information released by one company on the cloud network. The location of the data on the web may also not be controlled by a given business host manager. Sensitive and important data may easily fall into the hands of clients that cannot be entrusted which can lead to unsafe data. When a hosting company has a downtime, cloud hosting may also be unsafe. All other companies or applications on the particular cloud may be shut down due to this reason.
