Getting An Estimate from A House Painter

A house painter will sometimes give conflicting estimates on the same job since it will usually be contingent upon their schedule as well as the current time of year. This is why you can usually save money by asking for an estimate during the cold season, because this is when they are slow and trying to book jobs for the warm months ahead.

On the other hand, you will get the highest estimates if you call in the summertime. You can do a little checking on your own and you will likely find that the same contractor will give a completely different estimate on your home depending upon when you ask. However, if you know what contractors are going to take into consideration for their estimates you will be better prepared to review them.

You can get your house painted in several different ways. Some professional house painters like to use sprayers to get the job done, yet others like to use a roller and brush. Both techniques are good in their own way, and it isn't that either one could be considered the best. You can get a much faster result with the spray, but there is more potential for a mess. With the spray method you just have to make sure that the windows and the trim have been sufficiently covered to keep them protected from the spray.

The rollers are pretty quick too, and they are a little less messy. However the drawback to the rollers is that you can't use them on every surface. Brushes are of course the very slowest way to paint a house, but for someone who has a lot of experience it would be easy to get some beautiful results with a brush.

Before you go about requesting an estimate from a house painter, you should really take a look at the condition of your walls. You will want to see if there are bubbles in the paint or cracked and peeling spots. Definitely look for mildew and mold in any of these areas. It will be unlikely that you will be able to get a professional painter to work on this type of surface.

The type of paint that is used will also have an impact on your estimate. Both the quality of the paint and the colors that are used will be a factor. Obviously, higher quality paint is going to be more expensive. Also, remember that you will be charged for every coat of paint that the professionals have to apply. This means that if you are having a light color applied over a dark color there will most likely be several coats involved which will cost you significantly more. It would be wise to get in touch with more than just one house painter so that you can have the opportunity to make a comparison between multiple estimates before you make your final choice in regards to which painter you would like to take the job.
