You may be looking into VPS hosting as a possible alternative to shared hosting. For many businesses, this type of hosting is much more efficient. In general, shared servers are not going to be sufficient for online and e-commerce businesses that are actively driving traffic to their website. You really only get the most basic of tools, and you do not have a lot of access when it comes to shared hosting. Although it is very cost effective, it is probably going to be worth it to spend a little extra money on hosting if you plan on growing your business at any time in the future.

VPS hosting is somewhat similar to shared hosting in a sense that there are multiple people using the same server. The difference is that with a virtual private server, each user has their own partitioned section of the server. Every user has their own set of resources that are reserved just for them. This means that no matter what resources your neighbor is using, it is not going to affect you in any way. The security factor is important to consider, as with a virtual private server you have a lot more security than you do with a shared server. If someone on your server gets a virus or has a system crash it is not going to affect you in the least. With shared hosting you do not have this luxury. Basically, this type of server is just like having a dedicated server, only you will not be paying the same high cost.

Additionally, if you were to go with a dedicated server, you will end up needing to spend quite a bit on the hardware components and applications. When you use a virtual private server, all of this is shared so you will not need to worry about it.

Keep in mind that you will need a certain amount of technical skill to be able to use a virtual private server. Along with having a basic understanding of web hosting in general, you will also need to posses some basic computer knowledge. When you are choosing a VPS plan, you will want to be sure that you choose one that works with an operating system that you are familiar with.

Even though you will have to pay more for a virtual private server than you would for shared hosting, it is going to be a better value for your money. You should be able to get quality VPS service for under $50, and this is a fair price considering the fact that this type of server will end up paying for itself in the long run.

With the amount of flexibility and the affordability of this type of hosting, there are a lot of different types of e-commerce and online businesses that have found virtual private servers to be highly beneficial. As long as you have a solid business plan and the required knowledge, you can utilize VPS hosting to grow your business beyond expectations.
