Flash games and fun games are now among the most popular kind of video games to play, since these kinds of games are usually freeware and are available on social networking sites like Facebook. Perhaps these kinds of games are so appealing because they're generally quick and easy to play. These cool games are not as old as some programs which are still existing today, but they are have become so common ever since the integration of Java and Flash programs into browsers.Until 1995 most websites had no or little media, since there was no technology that could support such features. The Internet back then was a boring place compared to the bustling activity we now have.

In 1996, the introduction of Macromedia Flash marked the beginning of the Internet's role as a venue for mass entertainment. By installing this on certain websites, games became animated and interactive. Macromedia Flash likewise improved the overall functionality of most websites, aside from the innovations it introduced to online games. Macromedia Flash was originally intended to be used to make animation easier, and technological developments in programming eventually led to Flash, which paved the way for simple Internet games which could be played on the browser.

Since then flash games had a steady following, but the real boom in their popularity occurred in 2001. As quick, distracting forms of interactive entertainment, flash games and funny games appealed to a wide audience, most of which had only recently started using the Internet. Web developers and designers as well as programmers then decided to restructure the most widely played games at the time, which were Asteroids and Tempest. This project was a success, which is why games which were originally played on other platforms were then remade with Flash.

As may be expected, these flash games encountered some problems. They were mostly technical problems, the most common of which was that the technology couldn't keep up with the demands of the public. Sometimes the animations on action games would lag if too many people tried to play a particular game at the same time, and in some cases older computers couldn't play Flash-based games properly. In order to address these issues, Action Script 2.0 and Flash MX were developed in 2004. Improvements in the organization of Flash-based applications as well as in the functionalities of most websites were thanks mainly to these two programs. 2004 likewise ushered in the era of scoreboards in Flash games, which only helped increase the format's popularity.

Although today's flash games and funny games are generally just as simple as their predecessors, they are still widely popular because they're just so fun to play. Bejewelled, which is one of the most popular cool games online, is being played by hundreds of thousands of different players at any given time. There are also a lot of sites nowadays which allow users to play and develop their own flash games. One of these websites is AddictingGames.com, where new games are constantly being developed. People who need to be entertained or to relax turn to flash games since they're very easy to play. By tracing the history of flash games over the years, we can now conclude that these games will only get better and more interesting with time.
