The first challenge for a new established colocation (co-location) server is to secure it through proper steps. Despite searching without guidance it is a smart way to follow the path that leading colocation service providers are already using as their security method. Such a leading provider for colocation hosting is Interxion. Interxion data centre buildings consist five layers of physical security. Power security considered as the root protection for server colocation. There is a flexible power system arranged by the Interxion which is built in all the way to the cabinet and colocation server. Power infrastructure is installed with friendly facilities such as high-speed refueling. To fulfill dynamic customer requirements, an ongoing process is establish for the continuous improvement of primary design. To avoid outage along with the expansion of capacity, redundant equipments are installed. The main challenge for any system is to minimize the loss of efficiency and it also goes for the colocation server. By considering this fact Interxion manage to establish a continuous process of investigation. Process that save energy such as free cooling, ground water cooling, re-use of wasted head are the main target of this investigation. Discovering any available way to improve energy efficiency is possible as well for this ongoing process. Flexibility in power system design also aids this field. Environmental control comes to the third as efficiency of equipments that are used in colocation server vastly depend on it. To ensure this, equipments are maintained under continuous surveillance. The range between 18-25°C and 50%±10% are considered as the optimum value of temperature and humidity for the cold isle respectively. Multiple air conditioners including redundant ones are used to maintain this facility. Smart warning alarming system capable of executing early warning are installed to avoid any problem. Security of Connectivity ensures by following carrier neutral data centre concept. Interxion is using this connectivity method for connecting more than 350 individuals and ISP along with 19 European internet exchanges. The final step to secure a colocation server is carrier security. Here we find three general divisional category of network such as global, regional and national networks. these three have direct access to the backbone infrastructure and PoP's for more than 350 carriers. These carriers interconnected with each other while presenting at data center use this secured network which is capable of ensuring necessary privacy. Carriers also receive advantages via existing customer community within data centre by following this system. There are many additional security arrangements such as the perimeter fence, security entrance, mantraps belong to the colocation data center, secure room access system, lockable cabinets etc. Perimeter fence, security entrance, mantraps belong to the colocation data center, secure room access system, lockable cabinets etc are used as additional security arrangements. However clients have the privilege to introduce additional security levels like lockable cages or cubes as per requirement. Without proving authentication by showing national ID, passport or driving license; no one is allowed to enter or leave. Beside this, customer-defined access lists are maintained for indentifying valid customers. Multiple physical security layers consists of CCTV, man traps and 24x7 control access. Overall building areas are secured by alarming system and external areas are secured by guard patrolling.
