Due to the fact that there are so many websites out there, all of your hard work in building a website can be a total waste of time if you don't find a way to stand out above others in the search engines. The whole process is very complex, and you have to be patient enough to carefully plan everything out ahead of time before getting started. By definition, optimizing for the search engines is using careful analysis of keywords in conjunction with other techniques in order to achieve the highest rankings in the search engines regarding a certain keyword phrase and directed at a specific URL. You can use keyword analysis to look into the details of any specific keyword in order to find a successful niche to work in along with the best keywords to use. In regards to ranking, this is just the term for where you place in the list of results when someone does a search on certain keywords. The idea is to get as high in the rankings as possible so that your site is the first one that people see from their list of choices. When the results are displayed there will be a link that goes directly to the URL that corresponds with the person's search. Every page within your site has its own URL, or address. Try to remember that when you are in the process of building your site. When it comes to your methods, you want to avoid things like cloaking, link lists or redirecting. The best way to do it is through legitimate SEO practices. This means you should be using only high quality content, continuously working on your link popularity and making your site as valuable to people as possible. If you focus too much on ranking and not enough on value, you will no doubt fail in your efforts. Plus, when you use short-cut tactics you will only give your site a temporary jump, and soon your site will see the negative effects of it by dropping low in the rankings. There are a lot of myths when it comes to the best ways to optimize your site. One thing that a lot of people have come to believe is that the search engines will pick up on flash videos or images. This is not true, because text is really the only thing that the search engines will be able to read. While Google is able to read some links that are in Flash, their ability to read Flash content is very limited. Plus, you can reduce your site's visibility if you depend on Flash images too much. Also, if you duplicate your content and place it in many different locations across the web you can actually negatively affect your search engine rankings. There are rules in pace with many of the search engines regarding what they see as spam, and if you do not follow them you run the risk of getting your site banned. There is so much that goes into SEO, and even though it can get quite complicated it will most definitely be worth the effort once you begin to see results.
