A Argument As To Whether Colocation Is A Better Choice Than Going For Dedicated Servers

Many a small business as well as most new businesses knows the importance of having an IT facility to the success of their business.. However, the initial cost of setting up an IT facility in addition to the extra cost of staffing and maintenance is not something that all of them can afford.. The IT solution of such businesses can of course be met in two ways. The first solution is renting a dedicated server, while the second option is commonly to choose one of many colocation data centres..

Renting a dedicated server simply involves the company that need IT services to rent a server from a company that rents out servers instead of buying its own servers.. The company renting the server however, would have total control on the server and the server can be used to meet its IT needs as required.

Colocation UK on the other hand involves the company keeping it server with a company that manages the server along with the servers of other companies on a communal site. The responsibility of safe keeping and maintenance of servers as well as updating information on behalf of the client is the main job of a colocation company.

There are obviously both advantages and disadvantages to dedicated servers and colocation, but the advantages of colocation, invariably makes it a preferred choice to renting a dedicated server. For instance, when you opt for colocation, it is assumed that you already have a website and that you are expecting the website to generate lots of traffic in the nearest future.. Now when your websites gets really heavy and generates a high amount of traffic, you are simply consuming bandwidth and if you have an in house IT system you can have an idea of how much that with cost and how it will significantly raise your overhead costs.. However, when you opt for colocation you need not worry about the rate at which your site consumes bandwidth or how much it will cost since a colocation plan ensures that you do not have to worry about paying for bandwidth that would already have been handled by the colocation company.

Colocation also gives you the time and energy to focus on your business core. The constant worry on having your IT systems up and running can consume lots of time and energy. Losing sight of your values and business mission is also possible when you get enmeshed in keeping a functional IT facility and keeping off all threats. However, collocations companies have already covered all the angles.. They usually have an automatic backup system for generating electricity in the advent of power outage.. They also have systems in place to make sure that there is no loss of data and even if it happens, they have quick recovery strategies.. With colocation, you can be sure that you have a dedicated team keeping an eye on your server. Thus maintenance is something that you do not have to worry about, and above all your server is safe from unauthorized access which could lead to the theft of data because the server is located offsite.
