The $50,000 question these days seems to be whether you need to buy wind turbine or solar technology for you house. You really don't have to pick just one of these. The advent of new hybrid wind turbine models is turning this into a non-question. Hybrid wind solar systems take advantage of the inherent advantages of both renewable energy systems and put them together in one package. That way, when the wind is blowing, you can take advantage of the wind and when the sun is out you can take advantage of the sun's rays. Wind and sun are not mutually exclusive but for the most part, they happen at different times. What I mean by that is that in most parts of the world when the sun is shining the strongest, the wind is not blowing that strongly. And conversely, when the wind is blowing it usually means weather is on the way which will make it difficult for a solar collector to do its job. If our objective is to make as much electricity as we can from renewable energy systems, then we should be looking at both ways of creating power. We need to be objectively looking at both technologies in order to make the power we need to replace fossil fuel electricity production. As the more people buy wind turbine and solar power generation systems the prices will continue to come down, which of course in turn will incite more people to buy them, further driving costs down. Making them cheap and easy to install is the only way to really move renewable ahead in a big way. The future of both these technologies for homes will only be realized when we can make full use of the millions of roofs and fields where inexpensive wind turbines and solar collectors can be placed. Once these units get cheap enough to place them everywhere, renewable energy will move from being a novelty to the energy mainstream. This is the true promise of renewable power. When all is said and done, the more people take the government up on their tax incentives and buy wind turbine and solar collector systems, the quicker prices will drop and the easier this will all be. Combining wind and solar in one hybrid package will only benefit the consumer and speed up moving us into a renewable world that's not beholden to Middle Eastern oil concerns and their myriad problems.
