Where else but home wind turbine prices can you go to get so confused? It is amazing how things that seem so alike can present themselves with such different costs. There is so much appeal these days for anything Renewable that manufacturers are putting out a lot of products that are priced for the market they are serving. What I mean by that is they are pricing the systems to meet what cash they think people have on hand. So, the question is, how do you know a good deal from a bad deal? When the products that do the same thing seem to cost thousands of dollars different, you need some guidelines to help you sort it out. If you pay attention to these two items at the outset, you won't ever be far off track… Is the wind turbine you are looking for vertically oriented or horizontally oriented? This can make a huge difference in the final price. Vertical wind turbines for homes are usually installed on roofs and can be quite ornamental. Horizontal units are very efficient but often installed on a tower which can add thousands of dollars in additional cost. Usually as much cost for the tower as the windmill itself. Then you need to consider if you will be mounting on a roof or on your property somewhere else. This can drive costs as well because ease of access is a big issue when you have to work on the turbine. If it is on top of a tower 100 feet in the air, they are difficult to access and work on. If the windmill is very high up you will have to hire someone to do your maintenance work. It always helps to take some time on the front end and determine what your options are and then construct several scenarios that will work with each. If you understand your wind - that is the wind on your property - then that is always the first and most important step. That takes some time but if you place the turbine in the right place, you may be able to avoid a lot of cost. Summarizing - home wind turbine pricing can run you in a ditch if you aren't careful! So do your homework and understand your options from the very beginning. Consider not only the upfront cost of the unit but costs you will likely incur with each variant so you can understand the REAL total cost of each option.
