Windmill Kits - What Are The Downsides Of Having One?

Wind turbine kits for your home are not the answer to all questions but they do solve a number of problems. While they can be a terrific solution for reducing expenses at home there are downsides to them that you need to be aware of.

Here are the upsides for your consideration:

1. Drive down expenses - with a wind turbine kit you won't spend nearly as much money as you would be going through a dealer. The parts are not assembled yet so they will be cheaper when it comes to freight as well.

2. Study electricity and physics through learning about the wind - when you are having to put all this together yourself you are forced to delve into the science behind the technology while you are at it.

3. Electricity independence - as fossil fuels become more and more constrained, all of us are going to have to come to grips with making our own energy or at least making a portion of it. Prices will eventually rise to the point where we have to. The great thing about a wind turbine kit is that you are learning a skill that can pay off for you for a long time in the future.

There are downsides and you need to know and acknowledge these too:

1. Wind kits can take a long time to get up and running - you need to plan for some of your weekends to be taken up for a while to make this project happen and be done right.

2. Certain equipment that you may not have at home may be required - power tools and lifting devices for once you get it built. If you are good with tools like this you can do this project quickly with wind turbine kits but if you don't, then the added cost to get to the point where you can be in a position to even start the work will be prohibitive.

3. Also, if you don't know your way around electricity, you will have to pay someone to help you - of course this can be very expensive. If you do happen to have specific electrical knowledge it is probably not the kind you need to help with this type of install though. You need to have experience working with your utility on interfacing with their system.

Summarizing - there are certainly good and bad aspects of going with wind turbine kits vs. paying a professional to do the job turnkey. You just need to honestly assess your options and make the decision about what is right for you.
