How To Get More Website Visitors To Buy

In just about every effective online sales process, there are a number of common steps - you create quality content, you generate interest, you keep people coming back and then you get people to buy from you. That is a fairly simple method of building trust - in most cases this would be seen as providing something of value before asking for something in return. But how exactly do you convert more of those regular visitors into actual, paying customers? There are a number of things you can try - without necessarily relying on those infamous "red-letter" sales techniques.

1. Be More Likable

Customers will quite often buy from a place that they simply like more, rather than one that offers a better product. If you provide a welcoming presence to your website, answer questions frequently and generally make anyone who visits feel good about themselves then those people will remember somewhere down the line when it comes time to buy something. I know I go at least a further 10 minutes out of my way to get coffee because a place offers a better experience, despite there being many more coffee options that are just as good or even better only a few minutes away (as well as having a perfectly-functional coffee machine at home).

2. Be More Authoritative

It can be difficult, and perhaps harder to keep doing, but if it's suitable and you have the ongoing motivation then making an effort to stay up-to-date with the news in your industry and post your thoughts on any relevant stories can mean more people keep coming back to you rather than your competitors. It gives a greater sense of credibility, and makes you the go-to source for information pertaining to that subject - which will certainly mean a lot when it comes time to release one of your own products, and can prove just as effective in reviewing one from somebody else.

3. Be More Relevant

If you intend to sell or promote a particular product, then it makes sense that the content that goes alongside those promotions should be based closely on the same subject. The biggest problem comes with relying on AdSense to monetize your website, and the ads that show up have nothing to do with the actual written content on the page. To get around this you should do some initial keyword research using the AdWords Keyword Tool to find some more suitable terms and then make sure these occur a few times within your content. Text ads also have a lot more competition than image ads in most cases, so if you find the image ads you're getting don't have anything to do with your website, then switch them to text.

4. Be More Useful

Tutorials are one of the most common forms of articles people write, but often these are quite generalized and don't relate to any specific product. Rather than a simple article in the style of "5 Ways To Make Your Images Better" you could try "Using Artistic Effects To Create More Stylish Images In Photoshop CS5". See the difference? Not only does it provide more specific and useful help, but it also places more emphasis on the new features in the product and helps promote it as a result of showing the benefits.

5. Be More Different

At the end of the day, always make an effort to do something different and show information in a way that is different to your competitors. There are many websites out there that cover the same subjects, and many of those also cover them in the same way. You don't necessarily have to follow any set rules when it comes to writing about your subject, and perhaps sometimes the best alternative is to not write about it. Video is still very much an underused medium, but when done right it can quickly boost your credibility and offer increased value to your visitors.
