Everybody I know is doing everything they can to cut costs these days. If you are thinking about using wind energy at your house, you are thinking in the right direction. To buy wind turbines for your home is to create a system that can supply you potentially free energy for the rest of your life. However, even though saving money is a great reason in and of itself, we all need as many reasons to do things as we can assemble to carry us through when projects become difficult. These are two ways you will benefit when you buy wind turbines for your house: 1. Cutting your electricity costs at home. As fossil fuel resources are getting more and more expensive, more people are thinking about the fact that energy costs in general will continue to go up over time. This is unavoidable. We are talking about a finite resource that powers the electricity generators our utilities run on. As those fossil fuel quantities continue to diminish, our prices will go up and we will be left with no choice but to try to make electricity on our own. The good thing is there's a lot of free energy moving around us all the time. Both in the form of wind power and solar power. 2. Reducing your carbon impact on the globe. There is no carbon tax now but we all know it's coming. Whether or not you agree with global warming, there is a move afoot to charge people tax for the amount of carbon they put out. By being proactive at this point you are taking a positive step to reduce your personal carbon footprint before you are forced to. Those are 2 strong motivations but clearly the best place to start is to assess whether your property will allow you to be in the wind energy creation business at all. There are two aspects to this question you need to consider: 1. Do I live in a state with enough wind? This of course is super critical. With prices for wind turbines being what they are, you need to be careful and make sure you have enough wind to do the job. Many states simply do not have enough wind resources to be able to sustain a wind turbine project of any kind. Most states in the center of the country and in the Midwest are the ones that have the strongest wind. As prices come down though and cut in speeds, or the speed at which the turbine starts to make electricity, also come down it will be less critical exactly which state you live in. 2. The next thing you need to know is if there are any restrictions on installing a wind turbine either in your neighborhood or in your community. This limitation is a vestige of the past. The reputation that wind turbines have for being noisy and dangerous comes from the "large wind" industry. Very large wind turbines can make a lot of noise and be a danger to migrating bird populations. Smaller windmills, like the ones you will be installing, are not any louder than the background noise from the air-conditioner at your house. In the final analysis, there is no doubt you can cut costs at home when you buy wind turbines. However, you need to take some time initially and understand what you're getting into and answer the appropriate questions so that you go into to this project with your eyes open.
