Renewable energy harvesting devices are not that hard to make and are really not that complicated once you see the details of what is involved in their construction. Learning how to make a home windmill is just one way but it is one that will pay off in spades if you are willing to ardently follow a set of plans and invest some of your free time. When you get right down to it they don't cost much if you are making them yourself. While you can easily invest $50,000 in a wind turbine made in a factory, if you put one together from a set of plans, that same turbine might cost less than $5,000. A very simple wind turbine you might be able to make and have going for under $200 even! The plans themselves are cheap too - most costing under $50. You might even be surprised to find that you have a lot of the materials you need lying around the house now. Furthermore, you don't really have to have special knowledge in this area to get a turbine up and running. Really you just have to have a general aptitude for home projects and strong wish to get the turbine turning so you can make some free power. There are number of goals you can achieve with this technology: 1. Reduce reliance on utilities to supply you power - as soon as you get your windmill installed you can be cutting back on the power you buy from your electric utility. 2. Slash your carbon output to the bone - while a lot of the carbon a person puts out in a day is from their cars, the electricity you consume is no small piece of it either. By making your own power with a windmill, your utility doesn't have to make that much power with a power plant that burns carbon based resources to make energy. 3. Slash your personal utility bills - this is something you get immediate benefit from, too, in the form of lowered consumption. No matter what you are actually doing with the power you make, it is power you don't have to buy from your utility and that will of course cut your bill every month.
