Colocation is one of the many types of internet server hosting. Many companies normally opt to purchase a rack space in data centre where they later store their server equipments. This is made possible by the use of colocation. Co-location allows companies to run their own servers through the data centres. Through colocation, a company is able to run their own servers without necessarily having to hold the server in their business premises. Because of colo—made possible through cloud hosting the computing system—data centres can house multiple customers. There are a lot of advantages to colo, which will briefly be discussed here. The fact that bandwidth is cheaper on colocation than on a normal situation if they were purchased for a server. It's cost effective since the cost of one bandwidth is shared among a number of consumers. Unlike a situation of having to manage a server, colocation makes it possible for one to have total control of the server. This means that upgrading and updating your server is more efficient. Colo is likewise very reliable since there are lots of large machines that support the entire system. This means increased efficiency as well, since the Internet speed is faster. The internal networks are normally freed up for other purposes in the organization. You won't have to worry about losing any data as well since you get a great backup plan. Small businesses also make use of colo since it means they can offer the services of large companies for less. For this business centre's, there is the other benefit where they can pay to have their servers kept at the colocation centre's and having someone to maintain it for them. Normal business class hosting, however, is still so much cheaper than colo. This means that, if web hosting is all that is needed, it is good to have it hosted than uses a colocation centre host you. Co-location also requires a larger start up capital, since you need to purchase the data center rack space and the server. Bandwidth charges are also paid monthly. The system will also need to be kept well and upgraded. The colocation does not give this option as in most occasions the server is located at the data centre. This means that, there will be the addition costs of having someone do that for you.
