How To Become Stunning At Creating Fun Online Flash Games

Making successful and enjoyable flash games is not easy. It involves understanding basic principles surrounding what makes funny games, making the game replayable again and again and making it stand out from the thousands of other flash games out there. To do this you need to apply a few basic principles.

Firstly you need to think about the name of the game. A great name is essential for separating yourself out from other games. You need to consider how the gamer will initially react to the name of the game, put across a sense of gameplay and make the name enjoyable so that it can be easily remembered. Bad names are generic, uninspired or hard to remember. Adding super, extreme insane etc, will just make your game one of a hundred other games that already have that in the title. You may also want to consider Google when naming the game as generic names will make it very unlikely that you game will appear on the first few pages.

Secondly it is important to look at originality. There are thousands of flash games out there so creating an original one is hard work. Recreating a classic game and adding your own touch or originality onto it is a great way to make the game attractive. Thirdly you need to consider the physics of your game. Having a good grasp of physics in the game is invaluable. Making your game physics realistic is important so that gamers are able to predict the game and react accordingly. This will make a far more attractive and enjoyable gaming experience.

Fourth you need to consider presentation and graphics. Fourth comes presentation and graphics. All too often the last thing that a game maker works on is the menu and title screens. To create a good game the title screen must draw people in by finding a balance between presentation and functionality. Poor presentation that is too complicated or plain will drive away gamers. Graphics are often over rated in flash games. Graphics that are too intensive or heavy can seriously increase loading times making the game far less desirable. Often it is best to keep graphics clean, simple and in 2D leaving the 3D first person shooters to the PC.

Fifth you need to look at difficulty. Fifth in the list is difficulty. There is a perfect fit between boring and frustrating that your game should aim to sit in. The first level should be almost impossible to fail almost like a tutorial; the game should then get progressively more challenging. Sixth, GAME OVER. It is vital that when the game ends players can either easily restart and get back to gaming quickly or there is a save/load feature allowing them to continue where they left off if they die. Loading times for levels must be kept as short as possible, sometimes even 15 seconds is too long. Long loading times will drive gamers away as they are not expecting to wait a minute every time they die just to be allowed to play again.
