If you have the desire to build a wind power turbine, there are several steps that you must take before you try to figure out exactly which style and manufacturer's product you plan to purchase. If you choose to build of wind power turbine versus just buying one from a manufacturer, you will save literally thousands of dollars in the process. However, it is a lot of trouble and it takes time which you may or may not have. The first thing to do, however, is to assess what kind of wind resources you have on your property right now. This is something you must do before you even think about researching or, much less selecting a specific turbine. These are the steps you must take to get this right and not squander your money: * Understand and be honest about how much wind you actually have. The way you do this is quite simple actually. You must purchase a small windmill device called an anemometer, that will let you assess the wind at various points in your property that you might like to install a wind device. Once you've taken this data, you can download it to your PC and make some sense out of it. Given an average wind speed of 9 mph, then you are good to go and a windmill will definitely work for you. * Also, you need to check with your local government entity and find out if there are any restrictions to putting up a windmill that you need to know about. Just because wind turbines are super popular in the media now, does not mean that everybody agrees with them or, wants them in their neighbor's yard. So, you need to make a call to your local City Hall and ask what type of permitting restrictions there are where you live. Sometimes wind turbine restrictions come in the form of a maximum height that you can install the wind turbine or, possibly a setback distance from your neighbor's property for installation. All in all, you must take time to assess your situation up front. If you want to build a wind turbine you must get fundamentals down cold early or you could cost yourself a lot of money in redoing the whole thing. This is the best way to guarantee that your wind project will match up with the resources that you need.
