Windmill Kits - Are They As Good As Commercially Made?

[Valid RSS feed]  Category Rss Feed - http://www.articleforbacklinks.com/rss.php?rss=92
By : Roger Brown

All wind turbine kits are not created equal but they are always cheaper than a fully set up and ready to go system from a manufacturer or broker. That is obvious, but you want to know if your efforts with wind turbine kits will be inferior to what you would get from a professional.

The answer is more than a little difficult but I would like to offer way to think through and analyze your options.

The first thing you need to think about is that you will have to invest a lot of personal sweat equity with a kit, but that's why it's cheaper. Unfortunately the negative is YOU are doing the effort, so the final outcome is dependent on how good you are at this type of work.

How careful are you at working on detailed projects like this? If your honest answer is yes, then this may be the perfect project for you.

The really cool thing about building something from a kit is that you get to learn a lot while you are doing the work. You are getting dive in to an area of science that you wouldn't normally experience and get an understanding of how the wind turbine actually functionally works. Because of learning along the way, you can perform a lot of the maintenance work yourself and not rely on others to do it for you.

Alternatively, the advantage of have a knowledgeable person like a dealer involved is that they bring specific expertise about where to locate the turbine on your property and experience about what kind of windmill will work best under those circumstances.

Keep in mind though as you are going through this that just because a manufacturer says a unit is rated at 4 watts, for example, that doesn't mean it will always put out that much electricity. Those ratings are calculated based on a specific wind. And, wind is never constant, so a dealer will also be able to lend some knowledge and insight about how much power to expect out of a wind turbine with a certain power rating.

The way to make a decision on whether to do wind turbine kits yourself or use an outside expert like a dealer is one you need to make carefully, considering how involved you want to be in the process. It can be a great learning experience and very rewarding but don't kid yourself if you really don't have the time or the desire.
