Coffee is a very old and popular drink. Each morning millions of people start the day with a cup of fresh brewed coffee. It is now quite possibly the world's most consumed drink. So how did coffee become the popular drink that it has become today? The first occurrences of it are from the region around the Red Sea over a thousand years ago. Also, certain Africans at the time may have used the coffee berry for health or ritual purposes. Around 1100 AD the Arabs started to grow the beans. It is thought that ships brought over the coffee and they started to make drinks from it. They would roast and boil the coffee beans to make the drinks. From here the beverage started to grow in popularity and spread to other regions of the world. The city of Yemen was where the majority of the first coffee plants were grown. The Arabs closely guarded their plants to prevent other populations from growing their own. Eventually seeds were smuggled out and plants were started growing in other regions. Soon after this the first coffee shops started opening. These shops served as a great social gathering place for the locals and travelers. People came to these to play games and listen to music much like shops of today. In England during the sixteen hundreds a cup of coffee could be purchased for a penny. It is also around this time that sugar was introduced to some people's coffee. After this, espresso machines started to appear along with instant coffee. Millions of plants are now grown throughout many parts of the world. Each region has its own distinct aroma and taste. There are now many ways to roast the beans and create many flavors. Specialty stores can be found in almost every city now along with a huge selection to choose from. One of the more recent innovations is Keurig cups also called k cups. These k cups are premade single servings of coffee that make it so simple to brew and enjoy. A Keurig machine brews these k cups quickly and without a mess. There is no need for a messy filter, because everything is contained in the cup. The K cups best price can usually be found online in bulk quantities. This allows you to get a cheap per unit price on a larger order. You can buy k cups by the case for a reasonable price of about fifty cents per cup. A case usually gets you about 96 cups.
