If you are looking at renewable energy systems, you need to be seriously considering the vertical wind turbine for home use. There are several types of wind turbines that might work for you but the vertical type is probably the strongest for home use. When I say vertical wind turbine, I mean one that turns perpendicular to the earth. The other kind - horizontal-axis wind turbines - turn parallel to the surface of the earth. The horizontal orientation of course increases the effective footprint of the horizontal type windmill. So, what makes the vertical superior for use at your house? Below are 3 reasons why you should seriously consider vertical systems: 1. They perform well in a turbulent wind environment - this is the environment that most home turbines will find themselves in because they are typically installed on roofs. 2. Take up much less space - this is a big advantage because vertical wind turbines have a very small footprint. That is very helpful in that multiple devices can be installed close to each other and a huge amount of power can be produced in a small amount of residential real estate. 3. Less stressful to the underlying roof structure - horizontal wind turbines can be potentially damaging to the underlying structure of your roof. That is because they are constantly shifting direction in an attempt to seek the prevailing wind. In the final analysis, these strengths mean for you that the vertical wind turbine for home use may well be your best bet for home energy production. While you shouldn't just rule out horizontals, the strong advantages of verticals cannot be overlooked. There is no doubt you will pay more for a vertical wind turbine than you will for the horizontal variety. But, just because the purchase price is more does not mean that the final cost is more. You have to be careful to take into consideration all the costs involved in installing and owning a wind turbine. The total cost must include both the first cost and the installation, but also the replacement parts you will likely be buying. To get a true picture you must also put maintenance costs in the equation to make sure you have covered everything you need to cover. Once you have done that you will find that the vertical wind turbine for home use is priced close to on par with the more traditional horizontal.
