When you start out to build your own wind generator at home, it is very uncommon to have a clear sense of the most efficient way to get things done. A few tips along the way can really make things go smoother for you. Since it is probably the first and only time that you will be making a wind turbine, things can go very slowly and ultimately very inefficiently if you don't know what you're doing. Use these three tips and think through carefully before you begin: 1. First, began with a very careful survey of the places around your property where you might install a wind device. In many cases the only option available is roof. But if you happen to live on a large piece of property you can not only install on your roof but also in the middle of the field or on top of a ridge where you're going to get a lot better wind. It goes without saying that the strongest wind available will be above the level of the obstructions near your home - such as, trees and other structures. But to mount something hundred feet up in the air is a lot more expensive proposition. Nonetheless, you need to consider this in your repertoire of options. 2. Secondly, get a grip on what your wind resources are at those locations. The choice will become very clear when you have done that. The way to do it is to buy a small anemometer at Amazon.com or elsewhere on the Internet. That device will cost you approximately $50 but it will allow you to take data at those locations apply some common sense and information you have about seasonality of wind flow, and make some conclusions about the best place to install the turbine from your set of choices that pass muster. 3. Thirdly, strongly consider whether you want to actually build your own wind generator from a set of plans or from a wind turbine kit. This should be a key consideration. Of course, you can get your wind turbine up and running much quicker if you buy the device in kit form because all the parts will be right there in one place for you. But ultimately, you can do things lot cheaper if you buy a set of plans and go out and buy all of the individual pieces of the wind turbine to construct it yourself. In summary, it is wise to think through these three tips before you do anything else regarding your objective to build your own wind generator.
