If you're looking into a wind turbine at your home or business, without question you are looking for the optimal wind turbine that fits your situation. The good thing for us as consumers is that doesn't have to be the most costly wind turbine. The best windmill for you may be a very moderately priced one. But, in order to buy the best product you got to know what you're looking for in the first place. That seems like an obvious statement but it's not. Even though you know you're looking for a home windmill there are so many varieties you have to do some background investigation to make sure you are looking for the right size and type of turbine to meet your specific needs. The following are three questions I recommend asking as you are doing your research: 1. What do you want the wind generator to do? There are so many different things that you can have a windmill do at your home or business. The most popular thing to do is simply battery charging. Most wind turbines that you see advertised on the Internet for less than $500 our battery charging windmills. But, many people have ambition to go so far as to export power to the electric grid. This can be a great way to pay your investment back quickly but it is a lot more trouble, expense, and more technically challenging. 2. How much wind do I have on my property to harvest? Just because you live in a state that has a lot of wind does not mean that your particular piece of property has adequate wind resources to support the purchase of a wind turbine. You have to be careful about this. The best way to find out for sure is to buy a small recording device called an anemometer. The anemometer will let you collect data on the wind speed and direction at your home in various places where you might put a turbine. Eventually, as the technology progresses, wind turbine cut in speeds will continue to decrease. The cut in speed is the wind speed at which the wind turbine begins making electricity. As prices and cut in speeds drop, the number states that a wind turbine will work can well go through the roof. 3. Do you want to operate from a set of plans or do you want to just buy a system from a dealer? Of course the easiest thing is just buy a wind turbine from a dealer. Let them assess your situation, sell you the best device, and install it for you. That can be a very expensive solution however. You can save a lot of money by buying a set of plans or buying a kit and doing most of the work yourself. You can save literally thousands of dollars by doing it this way. Once you answer these questions you are in the perfect position to sort out what kind of wind turbine you want to buy the answer to what it takes to buy the best wind turbine for your home will be obvious.
