Do It Yourself Wind Generator - What's The 1st Step?

There's a lot to argue about when it comes to what sort of wind energy devices are best. When you're talking about a DIY wind generator, the big question is where do you start? Most people that want to build a wind turbine at home don't have technical expertise in wind science.

That shouldn't really be a limitation, however. To build a windmill at home is well within the capability set of the average home do-it-yourselfer. If you like to make things right around your house, like fixing your deck, or even doing some simple electrical wiring, doing a DIY wind generator project will be no problem for you.

Therefore, we all need some education in areas that are new to us before we can began and construct something that's meaningful and really works. Thankfully, there are a number of educational products on the market that will show us exactly how to make a DIY wind generator at our homes.

There are really two ways you can go forward with your first step:

The first and cheapest way is to simply buy a set of plans or diagrams in paper form off the Internet. This can be very inexpensive and you could end up paying less than $10 for a set of plans that will build you a wind turbine that saves literally thousands of dollars a year power costs. However, this path can be a real pain too. A set of paper plans that are of course two-dimensional can be very difficult to interpret if you're not used to processing projects in that format. You'll get a list of materials and be sent on a scavenger hunt to find them. You've got to have a lot of faith in the diagrams that you are given in order to make progress with this and actually get something done.

The other way is to purchase a set of video/DVD instructional pieces. Products like Earth4Energy are great for explaining exactly what you need to do to complete a DIY wind generator. The great thing about doing it this way is you get a visual presentation of someone actually buildings turbine. Having someone talk you through doing it makes it a lot more real and easier to get motivated and complete such a project.

In summary, a DIY wind generator is a terrific way to cut some costs and have fun completing. This is a project that will give you a lot of satisfaction in the long run if you take your time and do it right. My recommendation is to purchase a DVD series that will allow you to really walk through the process and make sure that it is something you want to take on before you begin.
