Do It Yourself Wind Generators - How Do You Determine The Correct Size To Get?

When you're looking into DIY wind turbines, the big question you're asking yourself is how large a device need to buy? There are several ways to attack this problem.

It makes the most sense to first look into what you're actually trying to accomplish with the device. There are several things that you can do with a wind turbine and energy make you make from it.

These are the things most commonly tasks associated with the energy created from a DIY wind turbine:

*Charging a set of batteries for later use. This is usually the easiest way to get involved with wind energy. The way you do it is to simply charge a set of batteries that are kept in a cool dry place and later reuse that energy for a variety of purposes. Many people use their wind energy to power devices that are very critical in case of a power outage. For example, refrigerators and pumps are simple things you can power with the electricity you make.

* Also, you can directly power your entire house. You will still need a set of batteries to pass the power through to, but it is possible if you live in the right location to power your whole house. You would obviously still want to be hooked into the utility however. That would be just in case you wind turbine didn't have enough wind drives in and create electricity.

* Finally, the most aggressive thing you can do with the wind turbine is to export power to the electricity grid. You utility is essentially forced to buy the excess power that you make. This is more complicated strategy however, because you are having to work with your utility and tie in your system with there's. The worst thing that can happen would be for you to back feed power to their grid. So, in order to get this project done you will need to hire the services of an outside contractor who is experienced in working with utility. It can run into some money to do that, but you can very quickly monetize this project by exporting the excess power you make.

Once you've decided what you do with the wind device, you need to also focus on where you're going to put it. That is a question the take some research as well. There are a lot of different options that you can consider, including mounting the wind turbine on your roof or putting it on a tower is high up above the tree line is you can legally get away with.

In conclusion, the way you size the unit is to make sure you match the wind turbine that you want to buy to the task you intend to use the power for.
