Buying A Netbook For Under 200? Find Out If Youre Getting Ripped Off

If you do a quick search, you can easily find several netbooks under 200. Pretty amazing right? But before you decide to buy the first one you see, it is always wise to check out all the options and compare before making a purchase. If you're budget conscious a good option is to get a netbook that won't cost you a fortune.

Here are some of the basic things that you have to know before buying a netbook under 200. This list covers the basics. As with anything you read online, you'll want to take somet time to do your own research.

Screen Size

This is one of the first things that people think about when buying a netbook. The recommended screen size should be about 10 inches. To give you an idea (in case you don't know yet), screen sizes are measured diagonally from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. An example of some netbooks that are under the 200 mark, the eMachines EM250-1915 and the HP Compaq 110C have at least 10 inch screen size.

Battery Life

Remember that one reason why you are buying a netbook is because of its portability. A netbook with a short battery life will not be very useful at all! What if you're on the road and there is no electric socket available? What if you are in the middle of a critical task and the battery suddenly dies?

Processor

Because of its size, the power has to be packed in a small case as well. You cannot expect to play a graphics-intensive game on it, especially for cheap netbooks under 200. However, there are powerful ones that are capable of playing videos, music, and software. 1.66 Ghz is the recommended minimum requirement. Most netbooks under $200 use the Intel Atom N270 or N280.

Random Access Memory (RAM)

This is the component that allows a computer to run multiple programs and files without overloading the system. Logically, best netbooks under $200 have limited RAM, so again, gaming is out of the question. You may be able run multiple applications though. Generally, netbooks have 1 GB of RAM, but if it really bothers you, you can upgrade it to 2 GB, which is another feature to look out for - try to find a netbook that is upgradeable. Hard Drive This is practically straightforward: the more work you do on your netbook, the higher your storge requirements are.

Try to find netbooks under $200 that have at least a 160 GB hard drive. The Delstar Ds700 Mini Laptop Notebook, the eMachines EM250-1915, and the The HP Compaq 110C all feature a a 160 GB hard drive. While netbooks under $200 price range relatively have the same features, you will find that some of the features will slightly differ. One might have a better battery life than the one with a good screen size for example. Remember, it is just a matter of priority. Take the cue by assessing your needs and wants.
