Purchase of wind turbine kits for your home is a great way to offset rising electricity costs. However, all wind turbine kits are not created equal. You'll find that many seem very inexpensive but in actuality, they don't contain the parts that are necessary to run the turbine. This can be a problem because most people that are buying a home wind device are familiar with all the parts they go together make a wind turbine work. So, there is a lot of trust that goes on between the purchaser and vendor. Yet, there are many vendors that are just trying to make a quick buck and are not very concerned if you have to later go on a hunt for the parts that aren't in the kit that you thought would be there. Here are two little secrets for separating the good players from the bad players among manufacturers of wind turbine kits: * Does the kit containe blades or do you have to buy those on your own? This is typically the biggest wear point on a wind turbine. The blades are exposed to the wind the most and they are constantly turning. Therefore, the blades wear out faster than anything else on the device, typically. You want to make sure that you get a wind turbine kit that has blades that will last a long time. The way to do that is to make sure the materials that are used in construction are either polycarbonate or a light metal. Wood, while very light and conducive to low cut-in speeds, wears out very fast. If you have to buy the blades on your own that is not necessarily a bad thing. If the manufacturer leaves those out, you can shop on the Internet and find blades that conform to the requirements the manufacture of the wind turbine kit makes. That way, you can spend a little more and get a super-high quality set of blades and not be locked into something flimsy that the manufacture might put in with a kit just to make it seem inexpensive. * Does the kit come with instructional DVDs? This can be a tremendous help to you when you are building the device. Having to go from a set of drawings, it is very difficult to construct something like a wind generator. If you see a set of DVDs explaining how someone else has already built the exact same machine, it will be infinitely easier for you to follow and do yourself. Earth4Energy is an outside vendor that supplies educational DVDs, but there are many others out there. In conclusion, wind turbine kits can be an excellent way for you to quickly and easily get into the wind power business at home. You need to make sure though, that you optimize your experience by paying attention to these two secrets.
