Don't buy wind turbine kits for your home until you read this article. They may be a total waste of time for you. Here are the 3 reasons why wind turbine kits may be a waste of your effort: You haven't checked out your local wind - this is a great way to mess the project up. Just because you have a lot of wind in your state and you notice a lot of wind blowing through the trees, does not mean that you have enough wind to support a wind generation project. You need to take a small device called an anemometer and measure the wind of various locations where you might install the device. It is best to mount the wind turbine in the location that optimizes your economic return, but you may be restricted in what you can and cannot do. You can't get a permit to put one where your best wind happens to be - local permitting can be full of restrictions that keeps you from putting your wind turbine specific place. You just need to take the time and get with your local government to find out what those restrictions are. You buy wind turbine kits that are made out of inferior materials - this can really mess you up. There are a lot of manufacturers out there who are putting together devices to get people a wind power generator who don't have the money to pay for the larger more expensive models. Therefore, they could be made out of cheaper materials that won't last nearly as long. You should get at least 20 to 30 years life out of your wind turbine. However, that doesn't mean all parts will wear evenly. The blades themselves may end up wearing out in a few years. That depends totally on where you're located and what kind of elements of those blades are exposed to. If you don't take the time upfront to really thoroughly investigate any home project, especially wind turbine kits, you will be in deep trouble. It could work out that you luck up and put everything right place in generate enough electricity anyway. But, why take the chance? All you have to do is do some planning up front. Just take the time to collect the data in various points run your property and make sure there's no restriction keeps you from placing your wind turbine the optimal location and all will go well. In the final analysis, wind turbine kits will not be right for you if you neglect these 3 steps.
