Cloud computing (CC) facilitates quick deployment and easy access to computer servers for web hosting and many other applications. Once users try it, they find it easy to answer: How flexible is cloud hosting? In a words, a cloud server is very flexible.Cloud computing is a cost-effective way for users to quickly and cheaply get to use information technology (IT) resources. CC makes these resources available on a leased, not purchase, basis. Users avoid paying the initial capital cost as ongoing operational expenses associated with IT resources. The idea is especially attractive to users that access IT resources infrequently and hence utilization is too low to justify purchasing resources. All Web-enabled devices can be used for CC. Clients may remotely work on text documents or spreadsheets. They can store and play MP3s or view picture and video files. They can even enjoy video games using CC. All these involve software and data that is stored centrally. Clients access CC in three different ways.As an analogy, some people prefer to occasionally charter (rent) a yacht for a weekend or vacation period rather than incurring the cost of buying and maintaining it throughout the year. Their decision to lease rather than buy is driven by their expected low utilization of the asset. CC serves a similar purpose in the IT market.Any computer desktop, notebook, tablet, mobile phone or other Web-enabled device connected to the Internet may be used to access applications and files through CC. Users may remotely perform word processing in the form of a report, press release or any other kind of Word.doc. They may remotely work an Excel workbook (spreadsheet). They may also remotely store and access MP3, still image (photography), moving image (videos), and bookmark files. They can play video games. All data is centrally stored, eliminating the need to carry a memory storage medium such as a USB flash drive or DVD. As an example, applications that connect to Internet-host email providers may be thought of as a form of CC, including web-based email services (such a Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo mail).Thirdly, for software, CC allows all applications to be stored in a central location. This allows clients to use software apps on remote servers via the Internet. This centralization means CC providers can efficiently manage and update versions of browser-based applications they offer clients, removing any need for expensive multiple-user licenses and new version upgrades. Finally, in terms of software, CC allows all apps to be centralized. It differs from a client-server network since it allows access to software apps from a remote server via the Internet. Importantly, centralization allows cloud service providers to have complete control over the versions of the browser-based applications they provide to clients. This removes the need for costly multiple-user license purchases and version upgrades. The provision of application software via CC is often called software as a service (SaaS). It greatly simplifies maintenance and support. Finally, from a software perspective, CC differs from a conventional client-server computer network design since it allows users to access required software that resides on a remote server via their web browser over the Internet. The CC design does not require an installed client version of the software application. Centralization is a key feature of cloud servers.
