Most people using this decorating style consider a designer bar stool, or two, from the era to be an essential part of the theme. These stools not only serve to accentuate the overall theme, but provide additional seating for guests in the kitchen or family room. Selecting the best barstools to go with an authentic 50s, 60s, or 70s retro-style design theme merely requires some thought and careful shopping. Size, color, and design and style are some things consumers need to think about when searching for the right furnishings to complement their retro-style theme. The materials used to construct the furnishings are another consideration. Thinking bold and fun is key. Most people think of jukeboxes, diner booths, bean bag chairs, shag carpeting, bell bottoms, and peace signs, when thinking about the years between 1950 and 1980. Consumers can find the perfect bar stool by measuring the height of the counter, table or bar that will host the seats. Choosing the correct size stool will provide a nice appearance and ensure the most comfortable guest seating. Measure the space from the floor to the top of the table or counter. Use the following basic guidelines for purchasing properly sized retro stools. If the surface of the table or counter is 35 to 37 inches from the floor, the top of the seat should be 23 to 28 inches from the floor. If the table top or counter top is 41 to 43 inches from the floor, the seat should be 29 to 32 inches high. Tall tables, counters or bars measuring 44 to 47 inches in height will require seats that measure 33 to 36 inches from the floor.
