There are two main options available to the UK consumer when it comes to broadband providers. The first option is ADSL broadband. There is traditional copper wire ADSL broadband such as supplied by BT amongst others. The other option is fibre-optic broadband as supplied by Virgin Media. You can get various features depending on which business broadband provider you choose. Whether you want broadband for home use or business use will impact your decision-making process on which package to choose. Some packages have a monthly download limit whereas others do not. The maximum line speed differs from package to package but will also be affected by where you live as some places have a more developed network of cables than other areas. Contracts have varying durations so bear this in mind if you want the flexibility to change your package in a year for example. The broadband cost per month will vary according to the line speeds and monthly download amounts. Different extras may come with different broadband packages. Business broadband packages can include for example a wireless router, static IP addresses, a set amount of webspace, security software and POP3 mailboxes. It is good to compare whether a business broadband package offers a better security deal than a similar domestic broadband package, for example a firewall and data backup. Usually a business broadband package comes with more support than a domestic broadband package, so find out if the business package comes with round-the-clock free-phone support for example. If you want a networked office, check to see if the package supports this. Check to see if a broadband package offers a static IP address if you want to operate mail servers. Through broadband bundles that include phone call and/or TV packages you may get a better deal on broadband. If you want to get TV and/or phone call deals with your broadband, these bundles can offer good value for money. You will save money by purchasing a broadband-only package if you don't want or need a TV or phone deal. The broadband package needs to satisfy your requirements but doesn't have to offer more than you need. Choose a broadband package with unlimited or large monthly downloads if you need to download a lot. It will be more cost effective to get a broadband package with slower line speeds and lower download limits if you don't plan on utilising the internet a lot. A business broadband package should incorporate efficient security provisions and round-the-clock support at no extra charge. If you require all the extra features a broadband package offers then it's a good idea to get that package; however if you will not be using your broadband a lot or using it for domestic purposes instead of business purposes, a cheaper option without additional features is more suitable.
