The different styles of feather earrings are countless. There is literally something for everyone. Someone that dresses conservatively could find feather earrings that are interesting and make a statement without being too bold or over the top. Earrings work to complement to a particular hairstyle or wardrobe, or as an exclamation point to you and your personality.

The most popular feather accessory at the moment is the grizzly. It is a feather that comes from the back of a rooster. The rooster feather, or grizzly, is usually long and narrow, with horizontal stripes. The very longest grizzlies are sought after as hair extensions, while the shorter ones used as solitary feather earrings, an anchor for a multi-feather earring, or as part of a hair accessory arrangement. Natural grizzlies can be safely dyed any color. Many online retailers offer packages of grizzlies at various prices depending on the lengths of the feathers. There are many synthetic grizzlies available made in countless colors with various lengths, and generally sell for much less than genuine feathers. Most of the online ads for grizzly earrings have a length of about 2-4 inches and are brightly colored single feathers, or a group of three to four feathers of slightly different lengths and colors bundled together giving the earring an interesting arrangement.

Peacock feather earrings are especially popular. The round, bluish part of the peacock feather, called the eye, can be layered, or staggered, giving peacock feather earrings depth and color contrast. Peacock feathers are not generally dyed, since it may lose its fascinating iridescent qualities. By the way, the source of the iridescent nature of peacock feathers comes from how the feather is constructed. Microscopic, crystal-like lattices in the feather reflect and filter certain types of light, giving the feathers that translucent, metallic look.

Most of the goose feathers used in feather earrings are short, white, oval-shaped feathers. They look very attractive as earrings when left in their natural state, or they may be dyed. Either way, goose feathers have a very soft, light feel about them, and look terrific as a solitary feather earring of any color, or as part of an arrangement. Earrings using a grizzly feather as the foundation or backdrop look amazing when surrounded by three or four goose feathers. The same is true of peacock feathers. Combinations of different types of feathers give feather earrings an added dimension of beauty.

The most amazing thing about feather earrings, besides their incredible versatility, is the prices. When you go on online or shop for these very fashionable earrings at your favorite retailer, I think you will amazed at the reasonable prices, I know I was.
