The look of feather hair extensions is very popular, and that is a fact. If you do not believe me, check out the number of websites selling all types of feathers for hair. They have feather earrings, hair feathers, and feather hair extensions. There are rooster feathers, peacock feathers, and goose feathers. I am still waiting to see some other kinds, but that may be next year's fashion trend. The rage right now is the rooster feathers called "grizzlies". They come in various lengths, but the most popular and sought after are the long ones. Why they are called grizzlies, I do not know, but I do know that this particular feather is the longest from a rooster's back. It starts at the back of the rooster's neck and can reach 12 to 14 inches long. The grizzly is a narrow feather with horizontal stripes, and when placed properly as hair feathers, they appear to be tightly braided hair. Colors of natural grizzlies are generally a neutral shade, but can be dyed. I think I have seen every color grizzly imaginable. Hair feathers can be grouped, and that is called a bundle. Bundling, when done artistically by combining different lengths, types, and colors of feathers, can be stunning. The various lengths and colors work in a terrific combination, complementing each other, making the sum greater than the whole. Different hair feathers have different textures. Long, thin rooster feathers are not usually soft. Neither are peacock feathers. They are wider and more colorful than a natural rooster feather, and somewhat softer. However, the softest one used in a bundle is the goose feather. Short, with a somewhat oval shape, they look like big fluffy snowflakes on an early winter morning.Synthetic hair feathers look and feel just like the real thing. Synthetic feathers are made in every shape, length, and color imaginable. They cost less than the real hair feathers of course, but if you do not feel right about wearing real feather hair extensions and still want that in vogue look that you have been admiring, then synthetic is the way to go.Some hair feathers are available from bird farms that collect the feathers as they come off the birds naturally. The price for the "natural molt" feathers is higher than any of the others because the supply is limited. The farmers collect the feathers and usually sell them locally in small batches. Therefore, if your style this year will be feather hair extensions, be it long grizzlies or colorful bundles, check out retailers online, or see your hair stylist. Both places will give you a better idea of colors, lengths, and styles that are available in your price range.
