Watches have been there with us for centuries now. They have taken different shapes and forms over time and they have also come up with different functions. There are different technologies which being used. Except for quartz and mechanical technologies, the watches are now coming up with patented technologies like kinetic technology (in this technology, the movement of the person will determine how the clock moves) and technology in which the clock runs on light energy derived from the sun or perhaps other sources. Keep pace with time and the needs, the technologies have always evolved and come up with great products. A chronograph watch is a perfect example of this. Today let us learn about the chronograph watches.

There have been number of attempts to make chronograph watches but they all failed until in 1821, the first chronograph watch was made 34 years after the concept of embedding a chronograph in a watch was born. The word chronograph has a Greek base where chronos means time interval and graphos stands for sketch. Thus chronograph actually means a device which can sketch and graph the time interval. Early attempts to make a watch which chronograph in it failed because of limited technology. However, when the success came, there were major design flaws because exact time could not be mapped together with the chronograph functionality. There was loss of seconds which had to be rectified. This happened because the chronograph shared the same dial as the actual time keeping watch. Many more attempts failed before multiple dials were introduced to increase precision. Later when wrist watches were made, no single watch making company managed to make a chronograph wrist watch on their own and hence, the rivals formed a conglomerate to finally design a chronograph wrist watch where people could find stopwatch function. More innovations were brought gradually.

Chronograph watches may have analogue method of functioning or they can be digital or they can be analogue-digital. These watches are today manufactured by many watch makers like Rolex, Omega, Daytona and more. These watches come with simple functions of stopwatches to more complex time measure functions which are required by people in aviation industry, military and sport. These specific watches ensure that they have extreme precision where alternate functions do not hamper the actual function of the watch. There is no loss of seconds and hence, these watches are in high demand. The best of the breeds are the ones made in Switzerland. The more complex the functions are, more is the number of sub dials present.

These watches come in different colors and designs and they are generally made of any of the three materials which are stainless steel, titanium and gold. Since these watches have extreme precision and they are made of nicely cut costly material, they are generally very pricey in nature and are bought mainly by those who have high purchasing power. So, if you have that necessary purchasing power, you can buy one and be sure that it will be a lifetime investment which will only increase in value over time.
