If you are in the market for a great altimeter watch, then it is a huge advantage to know which factors you should consider before you begin looking at actual products. They can all seem the same but their prices can be very different. Their range can be anywhere from a little over $100 to well over $400. All these products on paper, perform about the same.

They all have very accurate functions, such as barometer readout and altimeter. Many even have extra functions they can come in handy if you're out in the wilderness a lot, like her compass. However, the subtleties are what separates the cheap from the expensive watches in this market and it's a good idea to at least understand what the differences if you are truly going to buy something.

The first thing to consider is what you really need and why you need it. If you are going out on a hike or up in the mountains every weekend, and you're spending considerable money on your outdoor activities, then having a high quality altimeter watch with you at all times is a tremendous navigational and safety aid. Since it is not uncommon for these watches to have thermometer functions as well. Depending on where you're going to be spending your time you can also get watches with title chart information. The super high-end will allow you to even do some simple weather predicting.

How much it costs. And as I said before, there is a tremendous difference in price between the low-end of this genre and the high-end. What you get with the higher-end products is somewhat marginal though. If you're into status, or if you are into making the watch display as intuitive as possible, then get the higher-end of the spectrum. You will pay $100 to $200 more than you will for the lower-end watch but it will be much easier to read.

You need to ferret out the data later. Certain watches will allow you to record and print out the data you collect. This can be an advantage if you are trying to go over your trip with someone else. It can also be a big advantage if you are into comparing this trip the last trip. But, this function comes at a price.

How precise watch needs to function. The accuracy of these watch altimeters is all about the same. So, that's not a big differentiator. These are the primary things you need to keep in mind when you're shopping for an altimeter watch.
