Water damage can be really disturbing. If you come home with a happy spirit and find that your house is full of water and most of the belonging are destroyed, you may be broken down emotionally and try to restore everything. This however is not rational. There can be things which might be destroyed completely and there will no means by which you can salvage them. If you find your house full of water, the first thing that you need to do is to call up a water damage restoration service and then assess the value of everything that is messed up and figure out which one to keep and which one to discard. Discarding family heirlooms may not be so easy but if they need to be discarded, you will have to ensure that they are put off. Same goes with other items as well. You must behave rationally because; if you try to rescue everything (this includes those which cannot be reused), there will be unnecessary burden of storage and repairing. Will that be good? Will you really spend money trying to rescue something which will be of no use later? It is therefore, better to make sure that you start restoration process immediately and quickly make decisions on what to keep and what to discard and save your house and your belongings from further damage.

Perishable things and food: You will have to ensure that those which are soiled by water and those which are damaged must be discarded immediately. This is for your own good because you will never want to eat something which can cause damage to your health. This goes well even with broken stuff like tableware. Those which come in contact with the water from your garter or drainage or those that will come in contact with the bad water in general will not be sanitary enough for further use. Ensure that you dispose everything discarded in the safest possible manner.

Don't do this: Keep yourself away from electrical appliances during the water damage restoration process because using them can be extremely dangerous.

Do this: Get all your electrical appliances and goods checked by electrical technician and ensure that they are safe to use and that no damage has been caused by water. Let them decide what needs to be discarded and what can be kept. Similarly if you have tickets and pass for very important events make sure that they are intact and in case they are not, call their customer service and ask for replacement well in advance.

Don't ever do this: If you think that you can just clean up all the watery mess your house is in, you are wrong! Try to do that with you hairdryer or dry-wet vacuum and you will never even realize that you are actually creating the base for mildew, mold etc. Let the professionals handle. They know the science and they have the equipment to deal with these problems in a better way!

Don't delay: The longer you cause delay, the greater will be the damage. So, the "DO"-thing is that you have to take immediate step to restore your house back to normal condition.
