Apache is becoming a common choice of web based solutions to web hosting services for most people. Some businesses hosts their websites on shared web servers, other choose to host on dedicated servers, while virtual servers are the choice of some other businesses. The main difference between a dedicated and a VPS is that there are different sites being hosted on a virtual server by different companies. On the other hand , only the website of a company is being hosted on the dedicated server. Notwithstanding, UK VPS has some things in common with dedicated servers. Such common features includes the fact that all users on a virtual server are independent of what the others are doing. This is usually achieved by partitioning the server into separate units for the different users. Moreover, it is no longer news that independence is one of the highlights of dedicated servers.

If you want to install Apache on a virtual server, you should now some things from the start. You also have to do some things so that the installation would be smooth and problem free.

The first thing that you have to know is that different virtual servers have different operating systems. Some servers may make use of Linux operating systems, while some other servers may make use of Windows operating systems, some servers may also sport Ubuntu operating systems, and some servers are known to have Macintosh operating system. In fact there are many different kinds of operating system which might be on the virtual server. Thus it is important that you know if you have a Linux Windows virtual server host before attempting to install Apache on it. Otherwise, you could run into troubled waters, because if you only know how to install Apache on a Windows operating system and the server happens to have a Linux operating system, there is bound to be problems. Another thing that you have to consider is the version of the Apache that you want to install.

You would do well to remember that Apache is the most used web server on Linux operating systems. So it might be wise to have your server run on a Linux operating system. You will also do well to remember that there are basically three versions of Apache available which you can install and they are version 1.3, 2.0, and 2.2. Of all the versions, the version 2.0 is the version that is generally recommended for running on Windows XP. In addition, know that some software like PHP does not support the version 2.2 yet.

You can then go ahead to download the version that you like from the Apache HTTP server download, you should not forget to also download the Win32 binary After you might have settled all the issues above, it is only a matter of time before you install Apache on your server. All you need to do is to follow the installation prompt and before you know it Apache would be running on your UK VPS and you can have an enhanced web hosting server.
