Virtual server hosting is a hot topic in the IT world right now. Companies of all shapes and sizes are now realizing the tremendous number of benefits that can be derived from the use of cloud based solutions. If you too are interested in converting your costly IT infrastructure into a cloud based infrastructure, you should familiarize yourself with the trends developing in this industry to better position yourself and your business going into the future. Right now, there are numerous companies who are already hosting the entirety of their data in the cloud with virtual server hosting. While some companies have found the transition into cloud based computing systems to be quite natural, others are still struggling with technical difficulties when it comes to converting their systems into virtual components. For this reason, one of the most apparent trends of 2012 is the more common conversion of networks into cloud based solutions. Many companies are currently subsidizing their networks through the use of cloud based solutions and it is expected that companies will continue to follow this trend going into the future. In 2012, it is also expected for most companies to maintain at least half of their infrastructures within the cloud compared to previous years where only about a quarter of most company's infrastructures were made up of virtual components. It is also expected that more and more companies will rely on a wider variety of cloud based solutions in 2012. While hosting information on virtual servers has proven to be a very effective way to reduce costs and increase efficiency, companies are now also discovering they can utilize applications and software within the cloud to enhance their operations to a greater extent. While there is an exceptional amount of interest in cloud based solutions, many companies will likely continue to hesitate when it comes to converting their entire networks into cloud based systems due to security vulnerabilities. As in the past, there are still numerous security vulnerabilities that have yet to be exposed in this industry. These vulnerabilities can be particularly devastating to companies that depend on proprietary information to remain ahead of their competitors. Due to these unknown risks, it is expected that the security of cloud based solutions will play a greater role in the minds of administrative staff as they convert their physical servers into cloud based servers. While IT teams of the past spent the majority of their time focusing on new ways to increase the efficiency of physical hardware, it is likely that these same teams will now refocus their efforts on new ways to increase the security of cloud based computing operations. Along with a growing interest in cloud based server hosting and software applications, there is also a growing interest in converting desktop computers into virtual desktops. This transition is arising due to the numerous security issues that are made possible through the use of physical desktop computers, but companies are also becoming increasingly interested in virtual desktops due to the increased productivity cloud based solutions can extract from their workforces. In 2012, it is likely that many employees will be given access to cloud based applications that will help them make better use of the tremendous amount of data their companies have amassed in previous years. While the trends in the virtual server hosting industry can seem quite confusing at times, these trends are much simpler when viewed as a whole. The large scale trends in this industry are showing an increasing interest in cloud based solutions. Due to the decreasing costs of IT departments thanks to these new virtual solutions, it is likely that all companies will convert at least a portion of their physical systems into virtual systems going into the future.
