These days, it is rare to attend an even without enjoying the privilege of listening to a motivational guest speaker. They come from many different environments ranging from rehabilitated criminals to individuals that overcame great obstacle and ended up victorious. All these speakers have a specific message. They aim to motivate, enlighten and inspire and many of them have a very powerful message indeed. Sports speakers, too, are extremely popular on the lecture circuit because they are the epitome of success for many people. Successful sports speakers and athletes are in a class all of their own. They are the essence of shared achievement because when an athlete triumphs, his family, his community and his country share in the victory. They nurture common pride and they play a very important role in welding diverse groups of people into a new group with a common passion. In short, successful athletes are heroes of the community. Successful athletes all share some common characteristics and it is these characteristics that render them ideal as icons of hope and inspiration. It would not be possible to achieve in the eyes of the world without supreme confidence. Athletes have to work extremely hard, sacrifice a lot in order to achieve their goals and they are tenacious. While not arrogant, they have to know exactly who they are and what they are out to achieve. While successful athletes have a special talent, they were not born with the attributes that allow them to develop their talent to its full potential. These attributes are developed and learnt over time by being disciplined and dedicated. Sports speakers can show ordinary people how they too can develop a healthy set of attributes that will launch them toward the top of their own specific areas of performance. Most sport achievers are used to be in the public eye and they regularly have to express themselves at press conferences, televisions interviews and other public events. That is why many athletes are good motivational speakers. Those that are not good public speakers nevertheless convey their passion and this endears them to their audiences. The high profile maintained by athletes also makes them popular by default. Busy sportspeople certainly do not have the time to cope with all the demands upon their time and therefore most of them use agents to represent them. Naturally, agents need to be paid and the fees for an appearance by a prominent sports celebrity are sometimes very high, attracting criticism from some quarters. What these critics often neglect to take into account is that most of these sports heroes spend a considerable amount of time contributing to their communities and supporting charities. Many motivational speakers have a single message that is appropriate only to a very specific target group and they are therefore limited in terms of the type of audience that will benefit from their wisdom. Sports people, on the other hand, generally enjoy universal appeal and they are able to relate to people from all walks of life. It is therefore always a safe bet to use an athlete to address an event. The glamour pages seems to be filled with famous people that have been caught with drugs, that have been involved in yet another scandal and that is photographed partying through the night. These are the people presented to the public as celebrities and many people envy them their lives. In contrast to this degenerate society that use infamy as a foundation, sports speakers stand out as true representatives of real achievement.
