Wind power turbines for homes or businesses is an aggressive way to fight back against the onslaught of higher energy prices. We get a little reprieve now and then, but energy prices are not going to go down anytime soon as they are driven by forces outside of our control. We all are painfully aware that the political ramifications of the shrinking fossil fuel reserves are making it very difficult for prices to go anywhere but up in the energy market. Here are the three key steps to get a windmill device at your house up and running fast: 1. Pick several locations you might install the turbine - they're always at least a couple of locations around a person's property that will work for a wind turbine. Often the roof is simplest and the best choice. But, it totally depends on your particular property. So, a survey of your property and where you might install it is a very necessary first step. 2. Verify permitting restrictions - especially in communities that have dealt with renewable energy issues, there are clearly defined permitting restrictions defining what you can and cannot do. Sometimes you have to submit a plan of exactly where you want to install your turbine and how high will be mounted. In any case, it makes sense to check out your local government and ask what you must do to install one on your property.Verify your wind resources - this is not the same as looking at a government wind map in saying that your state has good wind resources. This means taking the time to actually take data on your property. At the places that you have designated as possible locations for your wind turbine, simply put up an anemometer for a few weeks and collect the wind data. Wind speed and direction averages the information that you need to assess. 3. Is DIY for me? There are certainly a number of options available for decreasing the price you pay for your wind turbine. Doing it yourself is a terrific way to go but you've got to decide if you have enough time to complete the project. You can get a set of plans or, use a video program like Earth4Energy to see what it would be like to actually build turbine yourself. Wind power turbines for homes are an ideal answer for the stifling affects the world energy crisis. The quicker you act, the quicker you will be saving money and becoming more energy independent. Make it your goal this year to get a video program and at least learn about what you can do to protect yourself from skyrocketing energy costs at home.
