There are so many ways to make the most of your short break in London that you will certainly not be able to indulge them all. Planning and foresight are necessary because time will be at a premium. Whatever budgetary constraints apply, a cheap London hotel are available and a convenient perch can save time and money.

One of the greatest charms of this city is that it seems to be 'open to the fields and the sky', as Wordsworth put it. It used to be possible to walk from one end of the city to the other through parks. This may no longer be possible, but there are still parks at the center of the city. More than anything else, parks give London its definitive character. For many people it will be a delight to walk in Hyde park though uncut grass where butterflies and rabbits can conduct their city lives.

It is not only the parks that create a feeling of openness in the city. People, in all their variety and unique differences, roam freely through the streets in a sort of stage full of a passing throng. Despite current and past efforts to suppress freedom it somehow remains palpable in the city.

Many people have breathed the air of freedom here despite the atrocities that have taken place. Monuments, and landmarks are at almost every corner, so that simply walking about, taking in the people and getting a sense of place is quite sufficient for some.

Although a general sense of place is free and sufficient for many most people wish to mark their stay in the city with some definitive experiences. Using the city transport system to get to a venue is an experience in itself that will add flavor to the visit. Whether one uses the underground train system, a red bus or a black taxi one becomes a part of the city as one joins the flow of millions moving about on their business.

English cuisine may not be known as the most desirable in the world, but the cosmopolitan nature of the population means that a wide variety of restaurants may be found. An English pub may be the best place to find a typically English repast, but at specialist eateries one can sample almost any cuisine in the world from more than five thousand establishments.

The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London and organizers have opted to exploit the historic strengths of the city and spread events, as far as possible throughout the breathing metropolis. There will be an Olympic center but events will take place in many venues that will be accessed through the existing transport system. A stay for the Games can include the experience of taking in the atmosphere of the whole city.

Wonderful shops in London provide an even greater choices than restaurants and places to visit. Anyone planning to visit in January can expect to find bargains in the sales, but in August 2012 the city will be busier than usual. It will be as well to browse through Kings Cross hotels and secure a place to stay. Once one has a place to stay one can relax and make the most of a short stay.
