Assessment Of Garmin Forerunner 405CX Heart Rate Wristwatch

If you are in the market for an outstanding pulse watch to wear when you run, there is no better choice than the Garmin Forerunner. It has both heart rate and GPS functionality.

When you are looking into watches in this genre it is important to pay attention to the functions that they have and which will suit your particular need. Some watches have GPS function and others have heart rate and the ability to interrelate the two.

Another distinguishing characteristic is whether the watch will record the data so you can later download it to your computer. This particular watch will allow you to analyze your run in a very detailed way.

The GPS function on this watch has some problems though. Many of the complaints that people lodge against this watch have to do with the accuracy of the GPS function when not running in an open area. For some reason the GPS functionality suffers when you are close to buildings. Another complaint has been that the material the watch is made out of is inferior. I would tend to disagree with that because the watch is subjected to a lot of things that a watch normally would not be subjected to this degree, such as heat and sweat! So, you'd expect if you were running with the watch and sweating on the rubber arm piece, that it will break sooner than a watch that you had bought off the shelf and just worn your arm at work.

On the positive side, the really strong feature of this watch is that it has Bluetooth. That means that if you get in the vicinity of your computer it will automatically download the GPS information from your latest run. This is a very handy feature.

Furthermore, this watch has the ability to tell time believe it or not. It also will give you an alarm far action as well as countdown timer and many of the other functions it you would find on almost any cheaper digital watch.

In conclusion, this Garmin Forerunner pulse watch with pulse functionality is a terrific product but you got to understand its limitations. You cannot expect it to have the same level of reliability that a normal GPS would. That is because the technology has not progressed to the point where GPS can be housed in something this small and with a form factor this thin without some complications. However, the fact that you using this as a watch for a run must be taken into consideration. That is, the level of accuracy needed for something like this is a lot different than the accuracy needed when you're driving somewhere in your car, for example.
