Movie posters are a very important resource for the public to partake of when deciding to see a certain movie or not. It reveals certain information such as the director and screenwriter's names. It also can identify the star actors and actresses and maybe give a glimpse of what the plot might be about. It will usually also identify the genre of the movie, at least indirectly. These cinema posters are not merely for children to paste upon their walls, they are also used by the discerning movie viewing public to assess whether they consider a film worthy of attending or not. A poorly constructed image may discourage viewers, while an effective one may attract viewers to a particular presentation. Visual images can be very powerful. As the cliche "a picture is worth a thousand words" implies, a single image can convey a wealth of valuable information. In cinema, a single image can signify a specific mood or a particular genre for the film. It will also highlight who the lead actor or actress is that is starring in the feature. A poster for a film is a selling point for many movies. Sometimes, people will not see a movie because it is not to their liking. Picking the right artist who will display a good movie image is very important to the studio who makes the film in the first place. The image should sell itself without a lot of typography on it except the title and the actors. The images are supposed to give the meaning of the picture without the use of words. Sometimes when there are fewer images, it makes the poster more desirable to look at on some levels as a lot of images can become overwhelming. This could turn off a potential movie-goer. Less can be more at times. Movie posters have evolved considerably over time. Originally they were often very simple designs, but contemporary posters are often far more elaborate. However, some of the vintage images are still very popular and they have weathered the test of time. The newer designs are not always necessarily better. Contemporary designs also feature more advanced graphics. Many of them have a three-dimensional feel, that is appealing to both children and adults. With technological advances and web-based graphics, fonts can be more varied than they were in the past. Sometimes screenwriters who are planning to write a screenplay find that drawing a poster for their idea helps them define their characters more. It also helps them the overall idea giving clarity to an otherwise messy situation of only having the idea in one's mind. The poster gives them something tangible to work with. This is helpful to the writing process. Quality film posters can reveal a great deal about the film's content and its cast of characters. In addition to making nice wall decorations for children and teens, a poster also serves many functional purposes, such as advertising the genre of the film and who was involved in its production. It also highlights the key actors and actresses who might appear in the movie.
