The Japanese Chin (also called the "Japanese Toy Spaniel") is a toy breed that commonly features a black and white, tan and white or red and white coat and is most popular in their homeland of Japan. A small number of their most typical features are usually seen as their cheerfulness, willingness to please and the devotion to their owners who they will follow everywhere - which in essence make the Japanese Chin a regular dog for anyone with the time to care for a sensitive companion dog. The Japanese Chin is legendary for their sensitive, devoted and eager-to-please manner. They are generally reserved with strangers at first but are affectionate with anyone they become familiar with, which along with their small size often makes them unsuitable as a guard dog. The Japanese Chin is also accepted to be quite intelligent - though only ranks 62nd in comparison with other dogs in terms of their ability to be taught obedience instructions. They are also well-known to be good with kids so long as they are taught to be gentle with them - which makes them somewhat suitable as a family pet. The Japanese Chin is very pleasant with other animals such as dogs and other pets. Grooming the Japanese Chin is a reasonably easy job. They require a small amount of brushing twice every week as well as daily cleaning of their eyes. The Japanese Chin can be kept happy with a small yard to play in, but they can be very suitable for living in an apartment if they are given enough exercise. They can be sensitive to both hot and cold temperatures so will need air conditioning to stay comfortable. Similarly to most small-sized breeds, the Japanese Chin is generally long-lived possessing a life expectancy of 12-14 years. The main health concern for Japanese Chins is commonly proven as breathing, sensitivity to heat and heart problems due to their flattened face. The Japanese Chin loves hobbies like a run around the yard, playing inside the house or learning tricks. They possess a variable level of energy and require exercise each day in the manner of short walks, though care should be taken when walking around other dogs who may try to attack them. The Japanese Chin can be the perfect dog breed for retirees, apartment dwellers or families with older children. They are appropriate to anybody who is able to carry out a moderate amount of grooming and allocate time to give them early obedience training and socialization as well as take them for short walks every day and provide a very high amount of love and attention. Though they can be fairly inappropriate as a pet for families with young children, if you are able to meet their need for gentle care and close attention then the Japanese Chin possibly will make the ultimate dog for you.
