Watches are no doubt very important in everyone's life. The features and techniques of the watches have actually evolved over years. Watches have been in use with two purposes in mind. First, to keep time and second, to accessorize the attire. The watches are generally sold on the basis of their features. Chronograph watches have three functions. First, they keep time. Second, they work as stop watch and third, they do the traditional job of accessorize the attire. The chronograph watches made their first appearance in the 18th century. Marine chronometers came with exceptional accuracy. As of today, there are several types of chronograph watches available in the market.

There are digital chronographs which are used mainly for display. They work both as timekeeping device as well as stopwatch. There are separate views for both and the modes can be changed on one single view.

There are digital analog clocks which come with an analog view which is standard for analog watches and a digital chronograph which works in a method similar to the digital chronographs.

These watches have more than one method of keeping time. In order to ensure that the chronograph function never impacts the analog function, there are separate dials for chronographs. These dials are called sub dials and they have separate function as that of the actual dial for traditional time keeping function. There are some chronograph watches where all functions are done by a single unit. This means that there will be no separate dial and second or minute or hour hand. There will be typically a button at the 4 o' clock position which when pressed will make the second hand come out of the general function and jump straight to the zero position (this is essentially the 12 o' clock position). When the button at 4 is released, the seconds hand will jump back to the actually job of time keeping. However, this kind of design has a major flaw where the time may not be accurate because of the differences cause by the jumping second hand. This is why the designs with multiple dials are more preferred. There can be chronographs watches with 2, 3 or 4 dials. The more the number of dials, the more complex the functions are and they can be used to calculate time frames of 30-45 minutes and sometimes up to hours. The more complex chronographs are used in the aviation industry and military because there time precision is extremely important. Some chronograph watches even come with date feature which is automatic.

It is because of these precision and multiple functions, the chronograph watches are widely used even in sport. These watches are available in different designs. There are generally made of stainless steel, titanium or gold. They really look trendy and can be used both with casual wear as well as formal wear. Because of their design and elegant finish and extreme craftsmanship, they add up style luxury to the overall appearance of the wearer.
