Wind Turbines For Family Home Energy Aren't For All

Everyone seems to be going green these days but windmills for home power still may not be for you. There are a number of reasons why it might not work and if you aren't diligent about checking them out, a turbine could end up costing you more than it saves you.

That doesn't mean that NO renewable energy will work for you. Solar power is often an option when wind is not. You just need to carefully assess your options with each before you making a ruling.

The following are the reasons that wind power might not be right for you:

Your local community disapproves - while this is happening less and less with all the pressure to reduce carbon footprints, it is still a fact of life that some cities, counties, and neighborhoods won't allow wind turbines in their jurisdiction. That is often a holdover from the days when all wind turbines were loud and dangerous to bird populations. Also, many people in a position to make policy just don't like the way they look - especially on a roof.

There is not enough wind on your property - as we said as technology marches on this will be less and less of a problem, but for now, turbines that operate at very low wind speeds are quite expensive. You need to assess the wind available where you are. Not just the area you are in but also use an anemometer to check out the wind on your particular property.

You don't have enough space - sometimes there just isn't enough area available for a windmill the size that you need to make any appreciable amount of power. If this is the case then it will be difficult to make it work until micro wind turbines come into their own and become cheaper.

You shouldn't be discouraged about this if home windmill power won't work for you. If there's not enough wind then there is simply not enough wind. Just wait until the technology catches up with you and there is a bigger variety of wind turbines with low cut-in speeds at more reasonable prices.

In conclusion, windmills for home power may just be for other people and not you at the moment. As prices come down for smaller and smaller devices, this will increasingly not be the case. A careful and honest of your options is necessary though to make sure you won't be buying something you can't really use.
