If you have the aptitude and are at all inclined toward do it yourself home projects, you need to build your own wind turbine. They do take some time but they are a great and inexpensive way to get going in the renewable energy world. Taking on a project like this can really make a difference in your life. There are just so many benefits both personally and financially when you have a wind turbine silently (almost) doing its job and lowering your electricity bills round the clock. The 3 key reasons I think you should consider a home windmill project are: 1. After a successful project, you will have the skill set in your hands that can literally take you off the electricity grid and make you energy independent 2. You can immediately power your whole house, a bank of batteries, or tie the turbine into a specific task to drive electrically 3. For every kilowatt-hour you manufacture with your homemade wind device you will be displacing one that would have been made in a coal or other fossil fuel electricity generating plant We all are beginning to realize that we cannot count on our government officials to be ahead of the power curve on this issue. As fossil fuels are a finite natural resource, we know that one day we will be without them. We must plan and all get good at looking for ways to divest ourselves of power creation from fossil fuels. If you dive into a project like this where you are forced to roll up your sleeves and learn how to do it yourself, you are assuring your own personal energy future. As you learn how to take available renewable resources like wind and use them to make your own power, you are taking control of your energy future rather than letting other people, countries, etc. and their decisions define your energy lifestyle. In the final analysis, this is a process we will or the next generation certainly will have to grapple with and use to their advantage. In conclusion, to build your own wind turbine is a huge positive step into taking part in the renewable energy future. By building your own vs. buying one readymade off the shelf, you are learning how to replicate what you have done so you can roll out an army of these to power whatever you want down the line!
