Cloud hosting and computing will branch off in different directions in the next five years. One branch of the individual type is going to be operated within a company. These are called private clouds. They function internally, in the company's own private data banks. In the next five years of development, reasons will crop up stemming from financial growth. The private kinds cannot be maintained for want of financial support. It is going to be more feasible for the public types to oversee the private ones. They will merge with a public provider at some time during the five year period. Securing the data banks will always be a priority in companies large or small. Private cloud hosting services will only exist as a concept that is outdated. The large public ones can be compared to the corporate giants of today that absorb smaller companies and turn them into branches. They each continue to operate on an individual basis. However, they are under control of the large corporation that has bought them out. The Infrastructure of the large public providers are going to need governmental guidance. As a data bank grows it will need more and more security measures. Encryption of data is only a small portion of that. The system will consist of only a few large public groups and numerous small private groups will depend on them. Security is sure to be monitored constantly and changed when needed. This kind of computing, is now considered freedom from the restraints of paying for server time you may not use. Companies are freed from paying for a month of dedicated server time, and possibly not using it all. Alternatively, companies have encountered times when they needed more space and found it unavailable. This kind of computing is a pay per segment of time. This is a fair way of using server time. No cost is imposed unless server time is actually used. There is always a need for server time. Corporations need to communicate with other corporations. Possibly servers can be established around the globe. Federations will have small companies grouped under them. Eventually expansion will need to be regulated and have some rules to govern the federations as well. As IT developers encounter situations that require standards, they will be developed and put into place. An ecosystem is an important development, not in size, but in function. If there is smooth functioning, the ecosystem will insure that this type of computing works in a way beneficial to all the private and public clouds. Expert opinion speculates that this type of computing is going to be consolidated in the next five years. Horizontal and vertical consolidation are both expected to take place. Large providers will acquire the smaller hosting providers. New consolidations will have similarities to the structure and change we see happening in the corporate world of today. As cloud hosting grows, change is inevitable. Some good changes will take place and some bad changes as well. There are three classifications of hosting services. Software as a Service, Platform as a Service and Infrastructure as a Service. New rules are going to be made as needed. Specialized clouds and platforms will be in place. Although cloud hosting will remain basically as it is now, there will be changes that are unexpected. Public clouds are said to be foremost with private ones in a position of dependency. New security practices may be needed periodically. Changes will happen as customer demand requires. Some of the changes are going to be an unexpected surprise.
