Chrome contemporary stools have never lost their popularity or identity. The shiny curved surfaces have caught the imagination of many designers. A growing number of people choose to add nostalgic items to their home. The chromite bar stools today fit in ideally around the kitchen island. The slightly akimbo chrome foot rests are still incorporated into the futuristic style of these chairs that are a pleasant progression from the more austere style of Googie's predecessors. Today there is a return to the nostalgia of the past and stools that have been recreated to remind us of the cosmic inspired furniture from half a century ago are making a come-back. Shoppers have a broad selection of styles in basic black and the chrome bar stool. Black leather and leather look upholstered seats are available in geometric shapes such as the cone and the rectangle. There are ice cream scoop shapes made from metallic-toned semi transparent acrylic that looks very appropriate for the Space Age aficionados in their home's private bar area. The shiny chromite pedestals enhance the broad variety of materials and shapes. The bar stools can also be made from sturdy leather upholstery or leather look coverings. Made from chromium chrome is made into furniture pieces, car fixtures, water faucets and other items. It is able to display a powerful feel of clean crispness that has found its home in many rooms of the house. Commercially too this coating is used in many eating establishments, waiting rooms and hair salons to name a few. Chromium oxide was first used by the Chinese 2000 year's ago by protecting the bronze on the crossbows as well as the steel of the swords. This tough outer coating was corrosion resistant and exceptionally hard. In the early 1800s chromite was found in the US and 20 years' later in turkey. The US became the world's largest producer of chromium products. The visual allure of shiny chromite carries a message of optimism. The booming economic time after World War II created a sense of optimism and desire to discover more about Outer Space. Chrome added flash and glitz to the automobile on the roads as well as the innovative bar stools found in so many restaurants and night clubs. The shapes of the seats became more Googie looking where geometric shapes played a major role. The futuristic barstool was easily found in soda shops, bars, and restaurants. The look was repeated in people's homes as well. The bright fresh look gave cause to feel optimistic about the future well being of the American culture. Man had landed on the moon and the continued prosperity of the western world gave a sense of comfortable security. Chromite treated pieces speak for themselves. Smooth reflective surfaces can be molded into limitless shapes. The pieces that have survived the wear and tear of time are now collector's pieces. The decorative hood pieces shaped like different animals helped to create brand identity. Chrome bar stools are available in a myriad of vintage colors of the 1940s, and 50s. At this time in history chrome was opening up the doors to provide a futuristic look to ones home or workplace. While taking a backseat in importance for many years, chrome has finally emerged to show again how attractive and psychologically powerful it can be. A new age has begin where space will play an even stronger role in world affairs and chromite has a place in design to express this new movement.
