If you need to have data recovery capability then you should have an online backup plan in place. Regardless of whether you need remote backup of personal data or business-related data, you can find a large selection of companies who can provide professional backup services. If you want professional backup service for your personal documents, photos, films or music for instance, which also comes with technical support, you can pay monthly, yearly or quarterly for such a service. One method of doing a secure backup for a business for example is for the offsite backup provider to encrypt the data so that a password for access is required. With an internet connection and the password you can access the data whenever you require it. Professional backup services range in the amount of backup space provided. The more space an offsite backup plan is allocated, the more expensive this plan will be. A backup plan has four primary stages. You need to determine the specific data to be backed up. You may be inclined to back everything up, but keep in mind that backups that take a long time are inconvenient and it can be costly backing up data that you don't actually need to. The next step is to decide how you are going to back up data. Apart from remote secure backup (which is backed-up data which can be accessed over the internet at any time), there are other forms of offsite backup. Disk-to-disk backup for example involves copying data to an external or removable disk. Other options include disk-to-tape backup and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup. For secure backup the tapes and disks need to be stored and managed offsite from where the data is being backed up. Disk-to-tape backup and disk-to-disk-to-tape backup are more expensive than remote backup and disk-to-disk backup due to the cost of consumables and the required management of tape libraries. The longer a disk is in use with disk-to-disk backup, the greater the potential for data loss if there is a disaster in the data centre, for example a fire. With regards to remote offsite backup plans, they may take a lot of time to set up and performance will be directly affected by the particular bandwidth which is associated with each plan. The third stage in a backup plan is to schedule and test whether the backing up procedure performs well and then fourthly to schedule and test the plan's recovery procedure. Whatever the level of secure backup you need, a professional backup services company can assist you with each stage of the backup plan. Creating an offsite backup plan can initially seem confusing and daunting but it is actually very simple to implement an effective and secure plan that fits in with your requirements and your budget.
