Home Wind Mill: 3 Things You Need To Contemplate

When you are in the market for residential wind turbine is easy to take action and try to purchase something before you really understand the variables that will drive a successful project. Renewable energy devices at home can make a huge difference in the amount that you pay for your power.

Whether you run a small device like a pump or try to supply power for your entire home in some very energy rich regions, you will be relying on that system to some extent to pay your electric bill. Therefore it is incumbent upon you to make sure you cover your bases before you go out and start looking for actual device to purchase.

These are the three items that you need to make sure you get right before you embark on an actual residential wind turbine to buy:

1. The profile of the wind on your land- all wind energy is not the same. It is different and has a different profile on everyone's property. For example, in the city there is a lot of wind but it becomes very distorted because of having to travel around obstacles like buildings and power lines. There is definitely a role for the residential wind turbine there, but you have to take those factors - that is, the obstacles - into consideration when you are pricing the system.

2. The options available for where to locate the turbine - there are usually at least three or four locations that will work for a residential wind turbine on your property. It is a necessity though to understand what the wind signature is at those locations and how much power you realistically can produce by spotting the turbine there.

3. Matching the wind device to the location of installation - as you probably know, there are both vertical axis wind turbines and horizontal axis wind turbines. Each has a particular application in which it performs best. For example, a vertical wind turbine will not perform as well as any horizontal wind turbine in high wind conditions. The vertical wind turbine is best suited for urban environment where the wind is chaotic - like on your roof.

Therefore it is very critical to make sure you match the type of wind turbine and the amount of power that it will likely make given your wind conditions. The residential wind turbine will save you a lot of money even if you don't get all these factors exactly right, but it just makes common sense to take a bit of time on the front side of a project like this and completely understand what details you must get right in order to have a successful project.
